A directory can help you discover an award, but the funding owner's current rules should guide your application.
Examples of primary starting points include DAAD for Germany, Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters through the European Commission, and the China Scholarship Council's Study in China portal. Availability and eligibility depend on the specific award and call.
Read the coverage line by line
Check whether the award covers all or part of tuition, living costs, insurance, travel, or a fixed allowance. Record the currency, payment dates, duration, and renewal conditions. A tuition waiver does not automatically cover the cash needed for rent or a visa application.
Look for exclusions, restrictions on other funding, academic progress requirements, and any service or return obligations. If a condition is unclear, get clarification from the funding body before relying on the award.
Build a separate funding calendar
A scholarship may require a course application first, a separate funding form, or a nomination from another organisation. Put both sets of steps on your calendar, including references and documents. Tailor your application to the published criteria with evidence from your own experience.
Until you have a formal award and understand its conditions, treat the amount as unconfirmed. Keep a viable alternative budget and check what happens if the first payment arrives after tuition or accommodation is due.
Verify unexpected offers
Be cautious with guaranteed awards, pressure to pay immediately, or requests for passwords and unusual payment methods. An official application fee can exist, so check the funding owner's published process instead of assuming every fee is a scam or every professional-looking message is legitimate.
